Czech language is a West Slavic language. This language is spoken by approximately 12 million people. It is an interesting fact that over a million of its speakers live in the United States of America, a smaller number of them in Brazil, Canada and Ukraine. It is the official language of the Czech Republic, and it is recognized as a minority language in Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Croatia. In Serbia, the Czech language is recognized as an official language only in one municipality - Bela Crkva.

Czech and Slovak are part of the same dialect continuum. This fact explains the high level of mutual intelligibility between speakers of these languages, although the Czech language was largely influenced by German, whereas Slovak by Hungarian.
