Romanian language belongs to the Romance group within the Indo-European language family. It is estimated that there are around 30 million speakers worldwide. Romanian is the official language of the Republic of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. It is also spoken in Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, Russia, Italy, Spain, Canada and the USA. It is recognized as the language of national minorities in Serbia (Autonomous Province f Vojvodina) and Ukraine.
An interesting fact is that this is the only Romance language which has evolved in the eastern part of Europe.
Throughout history, the Romanian language has undergone numerous changes. It had been written in the Cyrillic script by 1859, thereafter replaced by the Romanian Latin alphabet.
