Ukrainian, together with Russian and Belarusian, is an East Slavic language in the Indo-European language family. The three languages of the East Slavic group share the same linguistic history. The history of Russian and Ukrainian is so intertwined that both nations observe the first written texts as part of their own individual history, such as the case with “The Tale of Igor's Campaign”.
This language is spoken by around 46 million people. It is the official language of the Ukrainian Republic, and it is spoken by 1.5 million people in Poland. Ukrainian is written in the Cyrillic script.
